Reaction to Peer Review

The peer review was an extremely helpful experience. Not only did it better my understanding of the assignment while I graded the papers of my peers, but it also helped me see where my own paper had missed the mark. By being able to read the opinions of my classmates, I could see arguments that were similar to mine but written with drastically different perspectives. Parts of the readings that I had forgotten or looked over as unimportant to my essay were drawn out and analyzed with careful attention. Many times I saw arguments that I could learn from for when I would revise my own essay because of their development and depth. Finding mistakes in their essays made me realize that I had made similar ones in my own. In addition, having my paper graded by others brought my attention to flaws that I had not been able to see in my own writing. Instead of writing objectively, I had used the collective “we” to illustrate my thoughts, not realizing that this could trail into personal narrative territory. In addition, I could have made much more use of quotes from both authors instead of just one to tie in my argument. Compared to my peers, I had been writing with a more persuasive front. Overall, this peer review session was very informative and helpful, and I will try to take all criticisms into account while revising my essay for the final draft. I hope my classmates and I will make the most of the experience this has been and become even better writers.
