Research Process
So far, the research process has been difficult in that I'm still not certain with my explored topic. As I explore more resources and articles pertaining to educational reform, I found that relative study has already been made on the exact topic I plan to address, which is the optimal educational model that delves into the potential of one's self identity. Thus, I shift my focus to a specific group of students whose identities are often disproved and suppressed by social norms, such as the LGBT group, the minority cultural group and people with disability. They are often neglected in the educational reform when scholars often pay more attention to the overall academic performance and effectiveness of learning. I want to explore the specific correlation between current educational system and the repression of such identity and possible modified educational reform. Yet, there is no "counterargument" for my research proposal because I can't identify and present the two sides of an argument but rather evaluate different educational strategies. So I plan to discuss various educational models taken by research groups or traditional schooling and the evaluation of those models from students. I will evaluate what is more effective in preparing students to accommodate into societal environment and possibly tackle the topic from a psychological aspect as well. Particularly, I will do more research about how stigmatization of a certain identity is formed on a psychological level and incorporate educational strategies to prevent the stigma-directed suppression of self identity.
