The
peer research review process was actually very helpful. Some things that have
surprised me is the lack of literature that explicitly talks about depression
and low-income people despite all of the research that points towards a strong
link or correlation between the two. Another thing that surprised me was that I
did not know there were many ways to measure poverty, and by using one
definition versus another, a person COULD be living in poverty or could not.
However, in our minds, we are all thinking about only one image of a person
that is living in poverty. So I was enlightened by the various definitions
(that are applicable to the U.S. alone). Also, I am learning much more about
the pros and cons of Obamacare, because I think that this is a really
applicable introduction and reason as to why I chose this topic? Although it is
sad that this information about Obamacare may no longer be applicable due to
Trump becoming president and the Republicans taking over the Senate and
Congress… Professor Kelly left me some readings that could be more applicable
to my research, such as Gladwell’s “Power of Context” and Gilbert’s “Immune to
Reality”, so I will read these two NHR excerpts and see how these readings are
applicable to my research and will strengthen my argument. I also have to
create a stronger link between Johnson and my research.
