Course Reflection
Looking back over my past assignments and blogposts, I can definitely see a gradual change in the way I wrote. In high school, I never experienced such an intensive combination of difficult readings and long papers to write. Furthermore, after working through this class, I also realize that I lacked the experience and knowledge in constructing my own unique argument and supporting it with evidence. Over the semester, I have improved in not just knowing what a clear, concise thesis looks like, but also how to apply on paper, at least in my opinion. Also, I learned how to make my sources converse, rather than monotonously analyzing them individually. While this course may have focused more on the process of synthesizing an argument between multiple sources, I found that the content of some of the sources contributed to my views as a whole. In particular, Davidson and Lethem's opinions on current education and creativity not just made for an interesting read, but also compelling arguments that have helped shape my views. This course has also changed the way I think. It is as if I have been conditioned to look at two entirely different subjects or works and instinctively attempt to find the connections between them, because I know that a connection must exist somewhere. Looking back to one of the very first blogpost assignments that we wrote, I can say with confidence that this course and the New Humanities Reader have successfully developed a sense of "shared horizons" in me.
