I can definitely say, with confidence, that my writing
skills have improved significantly after taking this course. In high school, my
writing courses were not rigorous enough to teach me how to write effectively.
However, this course taught me how to articulate efficiently on paper. I also
greatly improved my organization skills when It came to writing. Specifically
learning how to outline and map my ideas assisted helped a lot in creating the
layout of a paper. Also the marked up rough drafts were extremely helpful in
writing. After constantly writing these essays, I eventually learned from my
mistakes in the course and tried to remedy them throughout. Learning how to
make connections is also a skill that I developed a lot throughout the
semester. Going into the course I was rather simplistic with my approach to writing
and couldn't really flesh out complex arguments and ideas. This course really
forced me to think. It pushed my boundaries in how I analyzed texts. I had to
go beyond just the similarities between the two texts. Instead I learned to
develop a conversation between multiple sources. This required me to think
about the implications of one text and pit it against the implications of
another. On top of highlighting the connects between the texts, I also learned how
to show their limits as well. All in all, this class taught me how to analyze
texts in a novel fashion and helped refine my articulation of that analysis.
